Council Presidents,

After talking within our Member Support Department, I wanted to take a minute to pass along a “best practice” that several of our Chapters have already undertaken.

With Open Season rapidly approaching for dental and vision Insurance under FEDVIP, we have received multiple calls from MOAA members across the country who have limited computer access.  As a result, they are somewhat limited in their ability to examine the insurance options available and make the best, most informed decision possible.

The November edition of Military Officer will have a section devoted entirely to this topic and does a good job of laying out the plans.  However, several chapters have taken it upon themselves to contact members and offer assistance to those who either fall in this category (limited computer access), or simply wanted to discuss options with another member who shares the same concern.  Some are committing time during monthly meetings to discuss and others are setting aside specific days to meet, provide computer access, and discuss.

It is certainly not our intent to levy a requirement on chapters as they are independent, volunteer organizations.  However, we did think this was a great example of MOAA members’ efforts to “Never Stop Serving” while looking out for other members and veterans as a whole.  My only request is that you pass this along to Chapter Presidents in your state and ask them to entertain the idea if they have not already done so.
 
The 2018 Open Season for dental and vision insurance under FEDVIP will be November 12, 2018 – December 10, 2018.
 
Our staff is standing by and ready to assist in any way that we can.  We will address this topic at the Council Presidents’ Webinar on November 15th, but thought it worthwhile to mention it now.
